Hastelloy C2000 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy developed by Haynes International as an advanced evolution of the widely used Hastelloy C276.

Introduced in the late 1990s, C2000 was specifically engineered to combine the superior resistance of C276 to reducing environments with dramatically improved resistance to oxidizing media, including ferric ions, cupric ions, and strong oxidants such as nitric acid and hydrochloric acid mixtures.

Hastelloy C2000 vs C276: Difference

Higher Chromium: Dramatically improves resistance to oxidizing species such as Fe³, Cu², and nitric acid.
Addition of Copper: A deliberate and patented addition that synergistically enhances performance in sulfuric acid and HCl-containing environments with oxidizing contaminants. This is the most distinguishing feature of C2000.
Higher Molybdenum: Maintains excellent resistance to reducing acids while supporting pitting and crevice corrosion resistance.
Ultra-low Carbon and Silicon: Ensures thermal stability and resistance to intergranular attack even after prolonged exposure in the 600–1000°C range.
Resulting Corrosion Performance
Virtually immune in hydrochloric acid up to 70 °C at all concentrations.
Excellent resistance in sulfuric acid up to 80 °C, even with oxidizing impurities.
Superior performance in wet chlorine, hypochlorite, and chlorine dioxide.
Outstanding resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in seawater and brine.
