When dealing with seawater desalination, chemical processing, or subsea oil and gas applications, material selection becomes as critical as the geometric standard. This article is a technical overview and dimensional reference for Socket Weld (SW) fittings manufactured to ASME B16.11 standards, utilizing the Super Duplex Stainless Steel grade S32750.

Understanding the Core Standards and Material
ASME B16.11 is the governing standard for forged fittings, covering both socket-welding and threaded types. It dictates pressure-temperature ratings, dimensions, tolerances, marking, and material requirements.
For Socket Weld (SW) fittings, this standard ensures that the pipe can be inserted into a recessed area (the socket) of the fitting, allowing for a robust fillet weld on the exterior.
UNS S32750 (often referred to as Alloy 2507) is a super duplex stainless steel. It is characterized by:
High Strength: Roughly twice the yield strength of austenitic stainless steels (like 304 or 316).
Corrosion Resistance: An extremely high Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN), usually >40, making it immune to pitting and crevice corrosion in harsh chloride environments.
When you combine the geometric robustness of ASME B16.11 with the metallurgy of S32750, you achieve a piping system capable of withstanding extreme pressure and corrosive media.
Socket Weld Fitting Types and Dimensions

SW 45°, 90° Elbows, Tees and Cross
Socket weld elbows are essential for changing flow direction in piping systems. Class 6000 socket weld 90° elbows, for example, have specific dimensional requirements that ensure proper fit-up and welding integrity. For a 1-inch NPS fitting, the approximate dimensions are 34.05mm outside diameter with tight manufacturing tolerances.
Socket weld tees provide branch connections in piping systems. Class 6000 socket weld unequal tees in S32750 material follow strict dimensional standards for sizes ranging from NPS 1/2 to 2 inches. These dimensions ensure proper flow characteristics and structural integrity at branch connections.
SW Cross fittings provide four-way connections.

SW Couplings, Half Couplings, Boss, Lateral and Cap Fittings
Socket weld couplings join two pipe sections, while half couplings provide branch connections to headers. These fittings are available across the full size range (1/8" to 4" NB) and must meet precise dimensional tolerances to ensure leak-free performance under pressure.
SW boss fittings offer reinforced branch connections, and cap fittings terminate piping runs. All these components follow ASME B16.11 dimensional requirements to ensure compatibility with standard pipe dimensions and welding procedures.
Lateral fittings provide 45-degree branch connections.

Conclusion
ASME B16.11 S32750 socket weld fittings represent the optimal solution for high-pressure, corrosive service applications requiring superior mechanical properties. By understanding the dimensional standards, pressure classifications, and material characteristics, engineers can design piping systems that deliver exceptional reliability and service life.
Always consult the latest ASME B16.11 standard documentation and manufacturer specifications for detailed dimensional charts and application guidelines specific to your project requirements.
