Stainless steel 317 flange is a key connection component widely used in industrial piping systems. Its material properties and manufacturing process enable it to perform excellently in harsh environments. UNS S31700 belongs to the austenitic stainless steel family. In addition to high chromium (about 18%-20%) and nickel (about 11%-15%) in its chemical composition, the content of molybdenum is significantly increased to 3%-4%. This combination greatly enhances the corrosion resistance of the material in acidic, chloride and high temperature environments, especially the resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion is better than the common 316 stainless steel. This alloy property makes stainless steel 317 flanges an ideal choice for fields such as chemical industry, petroleum refining, marine engineering and flue gas desulfurization systems, especially in the treatment of sulfur-containing gases, organic acids or strong oxidizing media. Stainless steel 1.4449's stability and durability are outstanding. Jinie Technology (Jiangsu) Co., LTD supply all different types and scales of flanges. Manufacturing Process of ss 1.4449 Flanges
Stainless steel 317 flanges are usually produced by forging or casting. Forged flanges have higher mechanical strength due to their dense grain structure and are suitable for high pressure and high temperature scenarios. During the manufacturing process, the solution annealing treatment must be strictly controlled. By heating to 1040°C-1150°C and then cooling rapidly, the processing stress is eliminated and the corrosion resistance is restored, ensuring that the carbides inside the material are fully dissolved and avoiding the risk of intergranular corrosion. The size and pressure rating of the flange follow international standards such as ASME B16.5, EN 1092-1 or JIS B2220, covering different pressure ranges from Class 150 to Class 2500. The connection surface forms include flat surface (FF), convex surface (RF), ring connection surface (RTJ), etc., to adapt to the differences in sealing requirements. The surface treatment usually adopts the pickling passivation process to form a dense oxide film to further enhance the corrosion resistance.
Application of SS 317 Flanges
The design of stainless steel 317 flanges needs to comprehensively consider the medium characteristics, temperature and pressure parameters and external environmental factors. ASTM A182 F317 Stainless Steel Flanges are widely used in various industries, including oil and gas, chemical, and food. They connect pipes, valves & other equipment and are commonly found in piping systems for offshore platforms, refineries, and power generation plants. For example, in the pipeline connection of acidic oil and gas wells, its high molybdenum content can effectively resist the synergistic corrosion of hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide; in the cooling water system of coastal power stations, it can withstand seawater and salt spray erosion for a long time. Although the initial cost is higher than ordinary stainless steel flanges, their long life and low maintenance requirements provide significant economic advantages in corrosive environments.
