Corrosion Resistance

Hastelloy C22 round bars Cold Forming

 

Cold forming of Hastelloy C22 round bars is performed by standard methods as high-nickel alloys. The work-hardening rate of the alloy is done through cold hardening process.

 

Hastelloy C22 round bars are softer when annealed. They need less force to deform.

 

The alloy is treated with cold picking solutions. This process creates an oxide film on the Hastelloy C22 round bars. The cold forming process of Hastelloy involves soaking the material in a caustic solution while it is molten. After this, the process continues with acid pickling at very high temperatures.

 

Hastelloy C22 round bars Hot Forming

 

The hot forming should be done in a temperature within 1600°F and 2250°F (870°C-1230°C). Their resistance to deformation increases because of the less temperature in hot working range.

 

Hot working temperatures for Hastelloy C22 round bars are very high. Therefore, it is important to take precautions during the hot forming process. After annealing is done it should be quickly followed by cold quenching which will help the metal to retain its property.

 

Hastelloy C22 round bars Machining

 

Hastelloy C22 round bars are moderate to difficult to machine. However, you can use regular production methods to machine these alloys at good rates.

 

During machining, these alloys harden quickly. They create a lot of heat while cutting. They can stick to the cutting tool surface. They also resist metal removal due to their high strength.

 

Hastelloy C22 Welding

 

Hastelloy C22 round bars is known to have good weldability. The main welding methods for Hastelloy C22 round bars are:

 

- Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW or "TIG")

 

- Gas metal arc welding (GMAW or "MIG")

 

- Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW or "Stick")

 

Besides these common arc welding methods, other welding techniques are also used. These include plasma arc welding (PAW), resistance spot welding (RSW), laser beam welding (LBW), and electron beam welding (EBW). Submerged arc welding (SAW) is usually not recommended.

 

This process adds a lot of heat to the base metal. This high heat can cause distortion and hot cracking. It can also lead to the formation of harmful secondary phases. These issues can hurt the material's properties and performance.
