Stainless Steel 347 Pipes are pipes made from an austenitic stainless steel alloy containing chromium, nickel, and other elements. It is known for its excellent corrosion resistance, even under extreme temperatures, by forming a thin oxide layer on its surface. This oxide layer protects the pipe from exposure to water and other environmental conditions. The addition of niobium in the alloy improves intergranular corrosion resistance, meaning that welds are less likely to corrode or fail prematurely due to the presence of aggressive substances in the environment. The high creep strength also makes these stainless steel pipes ideal for applications with elevated temperatures ranging between 800°C – 1100°C (1472°F – 2012°F). The stainless steel 347 pipe is stabilized against chromium carbide formation by the addition of columbium and tantalum.Since these elements have a stronger affinity for carbon than chromium, columbium-tantalum carbides precipitate within the grains instead of forming at the grain boundaries. Our 347 Stainless Steel is mainly used for applications requiring intermittent heating between 800ºF (427ºC) and 1650ºF (899ºC) or for welding under conditions which prevent a post-weld anneal.
